In and out the dusty bluebells

It’s Easter Monday, a public holiday in the UK unless you’re in retail where it’s normal plus the effect of not being able to shop on Easter Day itself. To avoid the number of people on the move we (Bridget and I) got out early for a quick walk.

We’re fortunate where we are. Despite being in one of the largest conurbations in south-east England we have the countryside of the North Downs a twenty minute or so walk (or 5 minute drive) from our front door, and that countryside comes with a decent amount of ancient woodland. Monk Wood sits right by the M2 motorway and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link but once you’re in it the noise of the traffic vanishes and you find yourself surrounded by the sound of birds, chittering squirrels, and the occasional shout of mountain bikers making their way along the maze of small trails that snake through the trees. While Monk Wood is a great place to get lost in at any time of year now is when it delivers a wonderful display of bluebells that carpet the floor of the higher parts of the wood.
