Whatman Park

From a walk around Whatman Park in Maidstone. The 18 acres of riverside parkland is named for the Whatman paper factory which was nearby and ran from 1740 to 2014. James Whatman (1702-59) was the inventor of wove paper - used for fine printing and art books - and the processes innovated by Whatman and his son form the basis of modern papermaking today. Whatman plc who gifted the land for the park are nowadays involved in the production of paper filters for scientific purposes.
