Grand Day Out

A different type of day. Going to London isn’t anything too unusual for us, it’s 40 minutes on the train, but doing the bulk of the trip by boat is a bit different. The Thames Clippers, basically the river bus service, has gradually expanded its range along the river from initially covering just central London - Greenwich to Westminster - to now running services from Barking to Putney. Pretty much all the main riverside locations are covered - Tower of London, London Bridge, Tate Modern, London Eye, Tate Britain, Battersea etc. The latest plan is to operate the commuter service further east, to Tilbury and Gravesend. During March and April there have been a number of runs from Gravesend to London Bridge via the O2, with a return journey a few hours later. More than enough time to have a pleasant 30 knot blast up the Thames, under the QE2 bridge, through the Thames Barrier, past a load of Thames-side sites, under Tower Bridge, spend a few hours in town before blasting back home.
